Last spring, we gathered at The Ux for an intimate afternoon centered on courage, resilience, and the quiet work of choosing your own path.
Led by Kay Lock Kolp, Café & Courage brought together a room of thoughtful, curious guests for a high tea, an honest conversation, and a guided workshop rooted in reflection and forward motion.
Kay shared her personal journey, from a time when she relied on a wheelchair to later solo-hiking across northern England, inviting us to rethink what courage looks like in everyday life. Her story wasn’t about extremes; it was about listening inward, taking the next right step, and trusting the process of becoming.
The experience unfolded over a light lunch, a deeply personal lecture, and a hands-on workshop that encouraged participants to pause, write, and reconnect with what they want their lives to hold. Each guest left with a custom journal keepsake, something tactile to carry the conversation beyond the afternoon.
The space was further enlivened by a pop-up exhibition of Kay’s original art, along with an art and book sale and signing, allowing guests to engage with her work in multiple forms.
Café & Courage was a reminder that growth doesn’t always require distance or disruption, sometimes it begins by gathering at a table, sharing a cuppa tea, and giving ourselves permission to imagine what’s next. Personally, it was a turning point for me.
