Highlights from Venezuelan Arepas: The Experience and Wine Pairing Dinner, November 11, 2025

Our guests, Art and Emilia, the dynamic duo of Art Cooks, have launched a new venture: offering informative cooking classes both online and in-person. We were fortunate to host them three times for special events called Venezuelan Arepas: The Experience

This workshop began as an invitation to listen. Rather than reinterpreting, the goal was to create space for tradition to be shared as it is, held with care and intention. From the start, it was clear this evening would be led by memory and meaning.

What stayed with me most was Emilia’s presence in the room. Her passion for the process, the ingredients, the gestures passed down through generations, was both beautiful and so heartfelt. As she guided guests through shaping and cooking arepas, there was a quiet tenderness in the way she spoke about food as a connector, something that keeps cultural ties alive when geography changes. The room felt focused, reverent even, as if everyone understood they were being trusted with something personal.

What this workshop taught me was the responsibility that comes with holding space for another culture’s story. It reminded me how deeply food carries identity, and how difficult it must be to long for home while building a life somewhere new. Hospitality, at this moment, wasn’t about showcasing or explaining, it was about listening, honoring, and stepping back. It reinforced that the most meaningful experiences happen when we allow someone else’s voice to lead, fully and without interruption.
