This event began with a bit of uncertainty. I usually have a sense when an idea is going to take hold, but this one arrived without much buzz leading up to it. Still, it felt worth trying, an invitation to slow down, browse, and gather around stories rather than a structured agenda.

What unfolded was a genuine surprise. People showed up, and with enthusiasm, filling the room with curiosity and conversation. Mando offered a carefully curated collection of gently used books spanning modern and classic titles, short stories, essays, memoirs, novels, recipe books, and literary favorites. Each selection reflected her decades of reading, strong opinions, and deep care for the written word. Guests lingered, leafed through pages, recommended titles to one another, and left with books clearly chosen with intention.

The atmosphere felt easy and generous. With the espresso bar and bar open, coffee, wine, beer--lot's of Maine Lunch, Italian Grinders, pizza, and something sweet moved naturally alongside the browsing. The room felt alive but unhurried, the kind of afternoon where time stretches just enough to allow discovery.

What this experience taught me was not to underestimate the quiet ideas. Not every gathering announces itself loudly, some simply need space to exist. The success of this book fair reinforced that people are still hungry for tactile experiences, for stories they can hold, and for places where curiosity is welcomed without expectation. It was a reminder that sometimes the most rewarding events are the ones that surprise you the most.
