Artist Statement
In my earlier life, I completed an undergraduate minor in art illustration with a concentration on the human figure in graphite and charcoal. Between long absences, I repeatedly found my way back to art, drawing subjects from within my profession as a wildlife biologist and college professor. Recently, I began exploring watercolors by taking classes and private lessons with local artists.
On a recent trip throughout western France, I captured the landscapes and architecture with plein-air paintings and photos. This first collection from the trip has an ephemeral quality because most of the pieces were done while standing along the roadside or at our temporary accommodations along the way.
